Helping to improve the lives of our Residents.

Ilminster Recreation Ground adjoins Orchard Vale

FOVL The 'Friends of Vaughan Lee' are a group of about 20+ volunteers who want to help improve the lives of the residents of the home. We liaise with the Manager and the Activities Co-ordinator to help where and when we can.

The objectives of FOVL are to provide assistance to the residents who wish to take part in daily activities; to go out on trips in the mini bus; to help with the tea trolley; to visit residents on a one to one basis; to fund raise and much more.

The activities are varied, ranging from flower arranging, dominoes, card making, bingo, cooking, glass painting and flexi size (very gentle exercise). There are groups who visit the home regularly, such as bell ringers, jazz musicians, singing for pleasure and theatre groups.

The weekly trips, in the Home's minibus, visit a variety of locations, for example, Haynes Motor Museum, The Fleet Air Arm Museum, garden centres, the sea side or just a ride through familiar countryside usually ending with a cup of tea and a piece of cake. The residents can request visits and these are accommodated where possible.

Taking around the tea trolley and visiting the residents for a chat are a great way for the friends to get to know the residents and for them to get to know the friends.

Fund raising is also a big part of what the friends do and the monies collected go towards the comfort fund for the residents. We run a raffle at the Easter and Christmas parties, we also run a stall, selling bric-a-brac, at local fetes and events and when a shop becomes available we usually manage to get access for a couple of weeks and do a 'pop up' charity shop.

We meet as a group bimonthly to discuss how things are going and what new ideas we have to help make the home and its residents comfortable. We also discuss how the funds we raise are to be used in the home.

We are always ready to welcome anyone who would like to join us, just contact the home and they will put you in touch with us.
